Curated by Langlands & Bell, the exhibition Absent Artists (Charleston, Firle, 2 April – 29 August 2022) featured depictions of studios in which the artists are conspicuously absent. Drawing primarily from the Katrin Bellinger Collection, the diverse display, illustrated here through a selection of representative works, included pieces by Jim Dine, James Ensor, Leonora Hamill and David Hockney amongst others.
Ever since the inception of the Artist at Work collection, the theme of the absent artist (or empty studio) has been a topic of fascination for Katrin Bellinger. See more related works on our website under the theme Artists’ tools.
